Metroid Prime: Hunters

The best space shooter on the DS

Metroid Prime Hunters
Nintendo
Nintendo DS
Genre: Shoot 'em up
Multiplayer: 2-4
Online Play: 2-4
Controls: Buttons and touch screen

The first Metroid game to boast a decent multiplayer and online play? We'll see.

Tecnically, this is the 3rd prime game, but it no-one really calls it that. Why? Because it doesn't follow the storyline at all, no metroids, space pirates or dark samus. This is a whole new type of Metroid game.

Unlike previous Metroid, this game has a multiplayer and online mode (let's try to forget Metroid Prime 2's unfortunate attempt shall we?).
So is it good? Long story short; yes. In fact, I could even say that the online multiplayer is better than the games singleplayer, because it is.
Six different hunters to choose from, each with there own distinct affinity weapons and alternative forms (like Samus's morph ball) and different abilities - it truly adds something special to the whole online experience. There are quite alot of maps to choose from, ranging from small to quite large places. A few different game modes, with plenty of varity and team battles. With all that and the online ranking system, you'll be hooked online playing against friends and rivals for hours trying to become the best bounty hunter in the galaxy.

Then theres the singleplayer mode, not that it's not very good, it's just a bit... meh.

Unlike Metroid games before Hunters, you can freely travel between planets in the alimbic cluster - well after you've discovered them. From the molten pools of Alinos to the icy peaks of Arcterra. The aim of your mission is collect all the "octoliths" (crystals, basically), before other entitys find them. Yes, throughout the adventure you run into several other hostile bounty hunters - the same hunters in the multiplayer mode. The secret to the great power of the alimbic cluster lies in these octoliths. Some hunters are here to secure the great power, others are driven to it for personal gain.

You'll have a hard time getting these octoliths while solving mind-bending puzzles and defeating these hunters along the way, each with there own abilities. Like Trace's ability to turn invisible, or Noxus's ability to freeze enemies; they're not gonna make things easy.

Like all Metroid games, you can expect some mammoth boss battles, but I found otherwise with this game. You'll know what I mean when playing the game, you'll have a serious case of deja vu.

So although the singleplayer may not be amazing it's a bloody good atempt at making a 3D metroid game, and the online multiplayer? Amazing, although like most online games, only the best survive.

Overall Score: 93%

+The graphics are quite tasty :P
+Seriously good fps controls
+One of the best multiplayer modes ever
+You can take the fight online
-Singleplayer is a bit weak

Best Bit: Getting headshot's online laughing
Worst Bit: Losing online is still a kick in the mouth crying

Short but sweet. You covered quite a few details here, some description of some of the levels would've been good. I also liked the style of the review.

Next time, try to go into more detail, but other than that, its an awesome review!

ONM forum goer (who wants to write reviews h ... says:
More of an oververbose summary than a review. This is one of the DS's defiening games and therefore should have had a review that did it justice, yours did not. Too short and if anything the after taste here is bitter. (Honestly I expected a little more from you considering the way you go on over at ONM)

Sorry about that, I'm currently in the process of refining my reviews. I only did this review in 10 minutes (rushed I know).

And please tell me who are on the forum. It's very frustrating that you left a comment like that (and I think that you want to write reviews here as it says on your name).

Animal Crossing DS Review

Animal Crossing is a Game with a lot of playability, options and customisation.
I would reccomend the Wii version if you have the money and if you want a better online and offline experience which comes out December 5th 2008.

Advance Wars: Dark Conflict

A fantastic turn-based strategy that hasn’t changed much has made things a lot more balanced, has cool new features and not forgetting the online multiplayer.

Links Crossbow Training

A fun yet short-lived shooter. It doesn’t quite live up to price and the graphics were taken straight from Twilight princess, lazy.

42 All Time Classics

A good selection of games in a bargain package, but more appealing to elderly audience and the online multiplayer isn’t very well organized.

Not just the best game on the Wii but the best Zelda game on any console hands down.
