Mario Kart DS

Best Mario Kart game hands down.

Genre: Racing
Multiplayer: 2-8
Online Play: 2-4
Controls: All functions
For me, personally, this is the best Mario Kart game there is, by far.
This game displays some of the best graphics and sound there is on the Nintendo DS, it completely over-shadoweds the pointy polygons of Mario 64. The controls are brilliant, you press left and the kart goes left, press right, and the kart goes right. None of the dodgy steering of Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash which tried to be more realistic in movement.
There are plenty of characters here, apart from arguably the best characters; some new faces appear such as Dry Bones. Each character has there own selection of vehicles on which you can play on a whole new set of courses and a selection of old retro tracks.
The multiplayer is great as it always is, and somehow, better. Eight player wireless single-pack and multi-pack multiplayer on vs. and on Battle on some pretty awesome stages. Not to mention the new online multiplayer mode which lets you kick some real French ass online.
This game will last you absolutely ages, apart from all the racing and battling malarkey, there are also "missions" that see you doing all sorts of crazy stuff and... boss battles.
